September 14, 2017 by Carolyn Hartzell

Message from Angela, our president:

Hi, All –

Thanks to everyone who made it to our first monthly meeting, and we’re sorry to have missed the people who couldn’t make it. A summary of the most important points are below. We covered a lot of topics so please bear with me.

Membership and Dues

We welcome both undergraduate and graduate students in any discipline and anyone who has an interest in human factors and design. We would love to hang out with more HCI folks, engineers, and designers! You can join HFES-GT at the following levels

HFES International Annual Meeting in Austin, TX

Important: please email Carolyn (see officer’s page for contact info) to place your name on the list if you plan on staying in the hotel rooms provided by the Engineering Psychology faculty as soon as possible!

Watch for your invite to the Alumni Dinner on Wednesday night during the week of the conference. Tex Mex – yum!

Bad Design Atlanta

Here’s your first opportunity to make a contribution – yay! Every year, HFES sponsors a competition, during which participants submit a 2-page description and a picture of a product/system/space that is so poorly designed that it is unusable or barely so. If you know someone who loves to complain about the bad roads and civil engineering job in Atlanta, this is the contest for him/her! Local industry professionals, faculty, and HFES members judge entries and award prizes of $75, $50 and $25. To make this happen, we need your help. Please volunteer to help with Bad Design. Email Angela (see officer’s page for contact info) for the link.

Ideas for the Year

Please take a moment to share your thoughts and suggestions about speakers, field trips, meeting content, socials, etc. for this academic year. Email Angela for the link (see officer’s page for contact info).

As a reminder, the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society at GT is the student chapter of the larger national professional organization that focuses on the research and application of user-centered design principles. Throughout the year, we participate in professional development, industry projects, outreach activities, networking events, and socials.  Our monthly meetings are on the first Tuesdays at noon in Coon 161, but we have other events and activities scheduled at other times on other days.

Whew, that was a lot! Thanks, and see you in October!

First HFES Meeting for 2017-2018 Academic Year

September 4, 2017 by Carolyn Hartzell

Hi, All!

I hope all of you will join us at our first meeting of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society at Georgia Tech. We have plenty of new people to meet, plans to discuss, and of course, pizza to eat! Most importantly, we’ll be getting ready for our HFES International Annual Meeting in Austin and the alumni dinner, but your wonderful officers and chapter sponsor have been working on a lot of new changes for the upcoming year: new dues structure, new collaborations, new socials and incentives, and new activities. Please respond to let us know if you can attend. Even if you can’t attend but have questions or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to email me.

Have an amazing Labor Day weekend, and see you next week!

Your dedicated chapter president,
Angela
